English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Literacy Program

Become a Volunteer English Tutor

The Sharon Public Library has partnered with the Stoughton Public Library to offer an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) adult literacy program. By volunteering your time to help adult learners improve their English reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension, you can significantly improve the quality of someone's life and  provide an important community service.

To be eligible to volunteer, you must:
  • Hold a high school diploma or GED
  • Be able to speak English clearly
  • Be sensitive to the struggles of adult learners
  • Commit to 1 orientation session and 18 hours of training
Volunteers are expected to meet with their students for 2 hours per week for one year.

If you meet these qualifications and are interested in becoming a tutor, you can learn more by
emailing stliteracy@ocln.org or calling (781) 232-9362; or, attend a New Volunteer Orientation session on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. The session will run from 6-7:30pm at the Canton Public Library Community Room, 786 Washington Street, Canton, MA.

As the Stoughton Public Library has moved into a temporary location during renovation of the main building, all orientation and training sessions will be held at the Canton Public Library.
